Stephan has always been drawn to outdoor spaces, both natural and designed. He strongly believes in the important role that design plays in incentivizing time spent outdoors. Studying at the University of Guelph, Stephan’s final year research paper explored the bond between humanity & nature and it’s importance in fostering environmental care. This confirmed his beliefs that the more time people spend outdoors, the more they begin to care for these spaces. He has since taken this philosophy with him into the professional world where he enjoys creating playful landscapes that focus on connecting people with nature.

Stephan brings with him 3 years of experience working as a Landscape Designer in his hometown of Ottawa, Ontario. There, he successfully guided several municipal park projects from concept to construction, and ultimately a finished built product. As a result, his skill set lies in successfully transitioning a conceptual design into the real world.

At Hapa, Stephan has continued working on public parks, where his current projects include Pebble Beach Lookout, a public space along the shores of Lake Superior in Marathon, Ontario, as well as two public parks within the rapidly growing Capstan Village Neighborhood in Richmond, BC.

Outside of work he is an avid cyclist, snowboarder and rock climber (why do you think he moved to BC?). More recently, he has gotten into cycle touring and sees it as a great way to explore diverse landscapes both locally and abroad.
