Coming from a background of larger-scale spatial thinking in human geography and master planning, a 2014 lecture by landscape architect Thomas Woltz brought Kevin to the human scale of landscape architecture, where he has studied and worked since. After completing his Master of Landscape Architecture degree at the University of Toronto in 2018, Kevin has been at Hapa working on projects like the Cunard Public Space, Pandora Hampton Plaza, Menno Hall, Steveston Dike Master Plan, Southlands Granary, etc.

Kevin’s interests lie in the ability of landscape to share stories and evoke emotional connection, while performing seamlessly within a social, ecological and infrastructural context. He has a fascination with the layering of landscape principles in design to reward many levels of curiosity and engagement, from pure utility function to the delivery of metaphor. He finds particular reward in the design of landscapes that facilitate meaningful memories – whether of the landscape itself or simply of the human experiences which can occur there. Successful landscapes facilitate connection.

He also has a passionate appreciation for the natural landscapes of our region and takes every opportunity he can to get outside. From skiing to hiking to cycling to ocean kayaking to enjoying some of the world’s best craft beer, you are likely to find Kevin outdoors living his best life any day of the year.
