- Landscape Designer
Frances Ramsay is a landscape designer whose work centers on creating engaging environments that strengthen people’s connection to land. Before transitioning into design, she worked extensively in restoration, invasive plant management, fish and wildlife habitat enhancement, and erosion and sediment control. Her early career as an Environmental Technician exposed her to the complexities of urban environmental challenges and fostered a deep interest in green infrastructure, stormwater management, and urban biodiversity. These experiences continue to shape her design lens, grounding her work in ecological sensitivity and a commitment to resilient landscapes.
Frances’s shift from the environmental profession into landscape architecture grew from a desire to connect people more meaningfully with the land they inhabit. While her technical roles allowed her to help protect and restore natural systems, she found herself increasingly drawn to the social dimension of landscape – how design can influence behavior, support community well-being, and encourage active engagement with outdoor spaces. This led her to pursue a Master of Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia, where she grew her understanding of how thoughtfully designed environments can improve both ecological health and human experience.
With a Bachelor in Environmental Science and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia, along with her professional experience with Hapa Collaborative, the Rivershed Society of BC, and the City of North Vancouver, Frances brings a unique blend of technical environmental expertise, creative design thinking and a community-oriented perspective to each undertaking.
