89 Avenue Students’ Boulevard
Edmonton AB

89 Avenue is a multi-modal street transformation with the intent of creating a safe, inclusive, and accessible open space in the vital spine of the campus network. The refresh facilitates vibrancy and will become a memorable destination where students, faculty, staff, community members and alumni are welcomed day, night and during the four seasons. In collaboration with ISL Engineering and Toole Design, our approach includes unified landscape treatment throughout, including a carpet of paving and signature lighting.

An allée of new and existing elm trees and prairie grass planting includes indigenous plants and ecological systems, and honours the history and tradition of the University of Alberta. The street design prioritizes both pedestrians and cyclists, while existing services such as bus, LRT stations and maintenance requirements are reprogrammed for the new space.
