Liveable Deep Cove
North Vancouver, BC
The Liveable Deep Cove project is the planned redesign of lower Gallant Avenue in the heart of Deep Cove. The project centres around upgrades to the public realm and pedestrian experience for the one-block stretch above Deep Cove Harbour. Following a temporary pilot project, a permanent project was initiated based on the data and public response to the pilot.
The main improvements transform the street from two-way to one-way, creating “flex zones” on both sides of the street that allow the parking stalls to convert to patio spaces as needed. The new curbless environment will permit easy closures and improved accessibility for events held in Deep Cove in the future.
The street character shifts from a traditional curb and asphalt surface to a modern curbless shared street with a material refresh, new street trees, rain gardens and site furnishings. It features the artwork of two young Tsleil-Waututh artists, Jonas Jones and Ocean Hyland, whose work was integrated into seating and bollards.
