Beachlands Experience Centre

The Beachlands Experience Centre serves as a welcoming node for the City of Colwood’s new seaside community. The project harmonizes landscape and architecture to create a unique and inviting place rooted in it’s coastal setting. The landscape design draws on the site’s history and ecological character, imbuing the landscape with references to historical and natural typologies. Sculpted landforms recall the site’s former mining uses, while native planting re-establishes long lost plant communities.
Outdoor seating areas and a terrace extend activity beyond the building, supporting year-round use. The landscape also responds to coastal climatic conditions, shaping outdoor spaces to enhance comfort and usability. Initially serving as a sales centre, the facility is designed to transition into a community centre supporting the community for years to come.
