2015 CSLA Awards Announced…and we won!!!

We are super thrilled to bring home 2 awards from the 2015 CSLA Awards.  Both Terra Nova and McBurney Lane won Regional Citation Awards!

Terra Nova Play Experience, completed with the City of Richmond, and McBurney Lane, with the City of Langley, received Regional Citation awards in the Design category of the annual awards program that recognizes excellence and innovation in landscape architecture.

These projects represent the opposite ends of the design spectrum, one being an adventure playground tucked into an existing regional nature park at the mouth of the Fraser River, and the other a small interstitial plaza in the centre of downtown Langley.  Despite the different contexts, each project was the result of a thorough and engaging public process, a strong collaborative effort between the client, consultant team, and the builders, and talented group of designers of past and present Hapsters including Sarah Siegel, Doug Shearer, Nell Gasiewicz, Shelley Long, Katherine Wimble and Erika Mashig.  We would like to also acknowledge Yvonne Stich and Kevin Connery, park planners at Richmond, and Francis Cheung and Kara Jefford at the City of Langley for their leadership and guidance.

Thank you again to everyone who was involved on both the projects, couldn’t have done it without you!

First-ever City of Vancouver Urban Design Awards, winners are now posted!

Joe was very grateful to be invited to be a juror for the City of Vancouver’s inaugural Urban Design Awards, recently handed out at Van Dusen Gardens this past week.  Joe joined Greg Bellerby, David Dove and Peter Wreglesworth  while city planner Patrick O’Sullivan (left) guided our jury through a full day of deliberations and kept us on track, focused and energized.    It was a pleasure to review such a high calibre of work in all the submissions, but in particular the winning projects that excelled on many levels.

All the winners are now posted on the City of Vancouver’s website at http://vancouver.ca/home-property-development/urban-design-awards.aspx.

Movers & spacers: Winning landscape architects champion smart, fun public areas

Hapa is on the front page of the Arts and Life section of The Vancouver Sun this weekend.  The article highlights our project at Main and 18th in Vancouver, which received a 2014 Award of Excellence from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects.  Mid Main was one of only two projects from BC to win an award this year, the other by Richard Findlay also featured in the article.  We are very happy to share the accolades with Joe McLeod and Tiina Mack at the Vancouver Park Board, who shepherded the project to completion.

Mid Main has also been recently added to a couple blogs, ASLA Dirt and Landezine, featuring the excellent photography of Kristopher Grunert.
