Hapster News!

We have been very busy doing Hapa stuff.  So, it’s taken a while for us to officially announce some good news.  First of all, we’re happy to let you know that Hanako Amaya and Sarah Siegel have been named as Associates with Hapa.

Sarah Siegel, BSCLA has been with Hapa since 2011. Before joining us, she worked with Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates in Brooklyn, where she contributed to several high profile projects in New York and Toronto.  She is an exceptional designer who has worked on all stages of projects from schematic design to construction administration, often as project manager. Sarah excels at the compilation and preparation of illustrations and diagramming graphics for presentations and planning work.

Hanako Amaya, BCSLA has also been with Hapa since 2011.  With a unique background that combines technical rigor and design sophistication, she injects the Hapa studio with a strong engineering competency and modern design aesthetic. She’s looking forward to taking on new responsibilities and to continue working on inspiring and ambitious Hapa projects.

Wait…there’s more, since the beginning of the year we’ve also added a few talented new Hapsters to the family.  We’re happy to announce that (from left to right) Lisa Lang – BC SLA Intern, Glenis Canete – BC SLA Intern, Nicole La Hausse de Lalouviere – M. Arch., Vivianne Harms – M. Arch. and Linda Ng – Office Guru have all joined the Hapa team.

Garden Dialogues: Vancouver Sept 20th to 21st

We had great experience being apart of the Garden Dialogues presented by The Cultural Landscape Foundation this past weekend.  The event was held Sept 20th to the 21st giving exclusive access to private gardens in Vancouver, with the opportunity to hear directly from the designers and their clients about their collaborative process.  We were happy to have Mid Main Park and Koo’s Courtyard be apart of the tour.  Needless to say the overall tour was a success, starting at Mid Main Park and ending at Koo’s courtyard for a bbq lunch.  Bonus Mr. Sunshine made a guest appearance really making us feel like we were in Tuscany.  Here are some photos from the day, my favorite is probably the picture of the 3 speakers (from left to right) Joe Fry, Bruce Haden and Amelia Sullivan, they look like they are sparkling underneath the vines as the sun shines through the gaps.

Terra Nova Play Environment – Reminiscing about how we got here… (Part 2)

Here are some artifacts from our fun and inspiring consultation with kids for the Terra Nova Play Environment.  They had great ideas!

First-ever City of Vancouver Urban Design Awards, winners are now posted!

Joe was very grateful to be invited to be a juror for the City of Vancouver’s inaugural Urban Design Awards, recently handed out at Van Dusen Gardens this past week.  Joe joined Greg Bellerby, David Dove and Peter Wreglesworth  while city planner Patrick O’Sullivan (left) guided our jury through a full day of deliberations and kept us on track, focused and energized.    It was a pleasure to review such a high calibre of work in all the submissions, but in particular the winning projects that excelled on many levels.

All the winners are now posted on the City of Vancouver’s website at http://vancouver.ca/home-property-development/urban-design-awards.aspx.
